Yesterday afternoon i had a Emergency with my babies.. they had their last feeding and ate it so rapidly causing food to go in their lungs.. they were gasping for air straight afterwards.. never seeing this i freaked out and googled everything but couldn't find anything to help them.. i was online on another Parrot Forum i use and thankfully one AMAZING person was online that knew everything what to do.. i was so scared for my little ones i began to cry and think negative thoughts.. she told me to "calm down" and "listen and do everything she says"

I was so scared for them that i would do anything to save them, even get puked on!!!
She told me to get a syringe of warm water and feed them both one cc at a time.. while massaging their crops and squeezing gently, while holding them upside down she said don't get scared they will sound like they can't breath..she said i had to empty their crops .. so they had to vomit up and it was a relief doing it one babie at a time and vomiting all over i was just glad all of it was out the vomiting causes the food out of the lungs to drain out!!!!
I knew it wasn't all over i had to put them to bed , both hissing at me angrily... for annoying them but they would thank me in the long run....
i had to 30 minutes before trying to feed them again and monitor their progress and breathing!!
Today, they are lively things and happy, their breathing appears normal and their back to themelves but i do monitor them still closely..
i am just glad the vomiting, gasping, and terror of loosing them is gone.. would've never forgave myself is anythink happened!
I have missed you all, slowly making my way back! :)

Wow that sounds like such a scary situation... I'm really glad that you were able to get some help from someone when you needed it the most! I'm glad that both of the babies are doing well now, and best of luck that they're fully recovered. :)

Oooh, you were so lucky to find her on line, maxtilly! I think that would have been srtiels. She belongs here as Susanne. She helped Paul save his chick and she described that procedure when telling Paul how to deal with sour crop. Chicks in trouble

Well done! All the very best from here on. We would love to see a photo of the chicks. If you read the thread at the above link, you will find first class information about hand rearing.
She was not quite what you would call refined. She was not quite what you would call unrefined. She was the kind of person that keeps a parrot. Mark Twain

I am so glad you were able to save the chicks. The word for what your chicks did is ASPIRATION, as in they take food into the lungs instead of the stomach. Can be either water or food. Much like when we choke on food or drink, the wrong valve opens at the wrong time sending it into the wrong place. Generally caused when we, as people breathe in whilst swallowing, therefore we start choking on food or drink.

You had the great forethought of contacting the right bird site at the right time which was good. You thought first and panicked later, which is what we need to do in times of worry.
